Last year's Night In A Car experience changed how I see people experiencing homelessness. While it was only one night and a very cold one at that, it definitely sharpened my perspective. It provided a connection. Now when I go grocery shopping and a person is selling Streetwise in front of the grocery, I make sure to say hi to them with a smile and make eye contact with them. I also provide them with a shopping bag of groceries on the way out. Everyone deserves dignity. My NIAC experience also personalized the phenomenal dedication of the HSHM staff to the community. Last year, the proceeds from Night In A Car provided 15,496 nights of shelter to 324 men, women, and children who had nowhere else to stay. You served 33,480 meals to our shelter residents and community members with the support from our local community.
